Privacy Policy

Last updated:

This page explains what gallery-dl online processes when you use the service, why, who handles it on our behalf, how long it is kept, and the rights you have. Plain language, no traps.

1. About this service

gallery-dl online is a web service that runs the gallery-dl downloader for you. You paste a gallery, profile, or album URL, we extract the media it exposes, show you a free preview, and, once you unlock it, package the files into a ZIP that streams back to you.

This is an independent project and is not affiliated with the original open source gallery-dl tool. For any question about this policy, write to [email protected].

2. What we process

We collect only what the service needs to work and to protect it against abuse.

  • The gallery URLs you submit. Every gallery, profile, or album link you paste is processed so we can extract its media.
  • Your account. Sign-in is handled by Clerk, which stores your email address, your name, and a stable user identifier, so we can link your activity to your account and enable paid features.
  • Payment records. When you buy credits, Stripe processes the payment. We never see your full card number. We keep records such as the checkout and payment identifiers, the amount, the currency, and the credits granted, so we can reconcile your balance and answer billing questions.
  • Your extraction history. The URLs you extracted and the resulting media metadata (titles, file names, counts, thumbnails) are saved so you can reopen them later without running the extraction again.
  • Basic request metadata. We log data such as your IP address, approximate country, and timestamps to enforce rate limits, prevent abuse, and keep an audit trail.

3. The media you download

When you unlock a gallery, our server uses gallery-dl to download the files from the source and packages them into a ZIP that streams straight back to you.

Those downloaded files are held only transiently, for the short time it takes to build and deliver the archive. We do not retain the media itself long-term. What stays in your history is the metadata described above, not the files.

4. We only access public content

We only access media that the URL you submit already exposes publicly. We do not log in to third-party sites on your behalf, we do not use your credentials, and we do not reach private or restricted content.

You are responsible for the URLs you submit and for making sure you have the right to download the media behind them.

5. Third parties we rely on

We work with a small number of providers, and each one only processes data to deliver its part of the service.

  • Clerk handles authentication and stores your account profile (email, name).
  • Stripe processes card payments for credit purchases. Card details go to Stripe, never to us.
  • Hosting and infrastructure providers run the servers and databases that store your account, history, and credit records, and that run the extraction and download jobs.

6. Cookies

We use essential session cookies so that sign-in works and your session stays active. These are required for the service to function.

No advertising or analytics tracking is currently active on the site.

7. Data retention and deletion

  • History entries. You can delete any entry from your extraction history at any time. Once deleted, it is removed from your account.
  • Account data. Kept while your account exists. To delete your account and the data tied to it, contact [email protected] and we will process the request.
  • Payment records. Kept for as long as tax and accounting rules require, which is typically several years.
  • Request metadata. Kept for a limited period for anti-abuse and security, then purged.

8. Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in Europe or the LGPD in Brazil), you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correct data that is inaccurate.
  • Erase your data.
  • Export your data in a portable format.

9. Contact and changes

To exercise any of your rights, ask a question, or request deletion of your account, write to [email protected].

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top reflects the latest revision.
